Tactical Turkeys

Lots of turkeys around this week
and that means time for just one more film,
maybe the last turkey one for awhile.

This is the 'tactical turkey', the flock as a force.
Moving individually with some prescision,
and as a flock, it's more in a military style.
At least it can look like that, with the help of a little
speed-up near the film's end.

And as the falling snow cleared and blue sky returned,
an old military copter took that moment to fly by.
And send the team off under cover.
Not one turkey was scared. None frightened.
This is what they do, all day & all night. It's 'natural'.

Flying Turkeys!!!

Flock's in the woods, scouts in the trees.
Lookup, watch out, do not get in the way.
Or, at least, be prepared to move quickly.
They can fly a little, soar more, and surely they
can get to the tops of those trees.

But watch it when then let loose.
Stand clear.

Lost in the Forest

Not meaning to be gone too long, the walk just kept going.
Round & round and yes, up and down too.
Almost lost, misdirected. Followed the wrong trail,
the wrong footprints.

Glad for the sun & shadow, showing the way home.

Mountain skiing

'Tis good from a distance. No lines. No tickets.
No crowds. Just the snow, and the mountain.
No skiing, of course, but then it's safer. Fewer falls.
Don't get to 'tis too often.
Sounds kind of nice, it does. 'Tis.

The Horse's View

Different perspective. Different sounds.
What's going on in that mind. Or out of her mind.
She's sees something I've missed. Out there.
Perhaps it was nothing. Nothing of consequence.
For her. She's older. Wiser. Larger.
I'm still looking.

Call of the Wild (titmouse)

More than just a peep. This is serious peep-peep'ing.
OK, maybe just 'one-way' in these few moments.
But you need to listen closely for the response.
The titmouse gets an answer to its call.
And slips away.

Winter gold (finches)

Lot of these birds about. Monmentarily.
Perhaps as long as the seed-feed lasts.
All over the place. Then just as suddenly all gone.
Chatter chatter. Peep Peep.

Wild Turkeys in Trees

It's surprising, to be walking along, in the early morning,
Hearing the gobble-gobble'ish honks of wild turkey,
Looking up & down the path, into the woods, in front
of you, behind you, hearing it close and then suddenly
realizing they're all 'above' you, in the trees.

A moment of 'wow'.
Yes, like most birds, turkeys too hang out in trees.
Then, thoughts of that classic Hitchcock movie return.
Time to find cover.....time to get inside, away from the windows.

Turkey Dining

Dinner for 20 or more. Cold weather's no hindrance.
Hungry lot. Eating like birds, of course.
Leaving footprints in the snow. And more, too.

Glass Ice

Early winter warming? Maybe just for today?
Ice breaking up. Clinking like broken glass
Gentle wave motion, cool not cold.
The lake getting it's grip back.

Turkey Walk

Always a surprise to look at the window.
About 20 or more wild turkeys lining up to walk.
Steady tho slow, almost one by one. Step by step.
Now where could they be going??

More Moon'ing

Big in the sky, yet far away.
Just a light breeze shakes the mounts. Unsteady.
Even the music vibrates. Wahwah'ing.
This must be the Ice moon.
If only it was really cold, really winter......

Sometimes called the Old Moon in January.
Or the Moon after Yule (sure, that gets a lot of use)
Also known as the Wolf moon this month.
Or it could have been the Ice or the Snow moon
but not much of either around this week.

Snowy Bird Feeding

Touch of snow. Smidgen of ice. Hungry birds.
Enjoyable seasonally. Woof fire. Warm heat.
Flickering lights, battery power hwnr it lasts
Ahhh.....Winter...the fun season.
Slip, slide, almost fall....balance & timing the key.
This film looks fast, but it's really 'real time', ...bird timing.
